Our position on Amendment 3 to the Florida Constitution on the ballot this November:
At its August Friends of the Library Board Meeting, the Board of Directors approved this resolution:
“The Friends of the SPB Public Library resolve to oppose passage of Amendment 3 due to its negative impact on libraries”
Passage of Amendment 3 will cause deep cuts to tax revenue available to the City of St. Pete Beach. The Friends of the Library recognizes that cities like St. Pete Beach need local tax dollars to provide many services, and one of those services is our public library.
For these reasons, the Friends of St. Pete Beach Library joins the Florida Library Association, Florida Professional Firefighters, Florida State Fraternal Order of Police, Florida Fire Chiefs Association, Florida Recreation and Park Association, and other organizations in opposing Amendment 3.
No matter where you live, we encourage you to research the impact Amendment 3 will have on your local libraries.
